Basket designs by Debra Cumming are unique, handwoven, three dimensional sculptures and vessels in botanical or nautical motif. The scallop shell incorporated into the God's Eye, or focal point, of the basket is the artists signature. All are original designs, some based on traditional forms, and employ an extensive use of color, texture and embellishments.

Deb has been weaving since age 10 and grew up in a five generational family surrounded by women who taught her all types of hand work. She developed an interest in basketmaking as a hobby in the early 80's and brings this background of fiber art to her baskets. She started selling her work in 1987 when she developed her signature scallop shell theme. Deb grew up on the South Shore and lives on Cape Cod. She also works as a social worker for the Visiting Nurse Association.
